The Society of Indexers: History and Activities
Abstract
From discreet luncheons in a gentleman's club and an inaugural meeting attended by 65 people, the Society of Indexers has developed into an organisation with an international membership, a regular programme of conferences and meetings, and its own journal. In the age of the computer the Society believes that the good indexing practice, promoted by a registration system and a training programme, will ensure that its members will have a prime role in controlling the information output of the next millennium.
