Abstract

A survey of serials acquisitions librarians to ascertain their experience of and views about subscription agents and their services has been undertaken. While the services of agents with print subscriptions remain highly valued, their services are less used for electronic purchases. Although respondents would have liked to use agents for electronic journals, the financial advantages of consortium purchasing are compelling. It appears that agents should concentrate their marketing efforts on special libraries, on the North American market, and on the service of negotiating on behalf of consortia.
