Serials Solutions from the customer viewpoint: implementing Article Linker at Aston University and the University of Wolverhampton

Abstract

This article examines the implementation of Article Linker, the OpenURL resolver produced by Serials Solutions, at two different universities. It discusses their experience as Serials Solutions customers, including what they hoped to achieve in terms of improving access to journals and the administration of their e-journal collections, and their reasons for selecting this product.A number of issues in implementation are identified, such as the need for accurate records of e-journal subscriptions and the fact that the number of journal holdings may increase over original estimates. Data quality is reliable with the exception of particular vendors, but staff time is still required during set-up. Nonetheless, Article Linker is found to have successfully fulfilled the expectations of both customers.
